Senior Pastor
David Cline |
Pastor David Cline was born in Ottumwa,
Iowa, and baptized at First Lutheran Church, Ottumwa. B.A. with a
major in religion from Simpson College, Indianola, Iowa. Master of
Divinity from the Lutheran School of Theology in Chicago. He has
completed his Doctor of Ministry degree at Luther Seminary.
Those interested in
"Initial Barriers And Impacts Of A Companion
Congregation Relationship" may want to read his dissertation.
Before serving Grace, David served as Associate Pastor at Trinity
Lutheran in Sioux City and as Lead Pastor at St. Luke Lutheran in
Sioux City. David is married to Fay M. Cline who is a family
practice physician. He has two children, Anna and Joshua, and a dog
named Sage Brushwig! David enjoys fishing, camping, computers, and
good jokes!

Lorraine and José Luis Avendaño
|
José Luis Avendaño is a Chilean Lutheran, the son of a Lutheran
Pastor, and has extensive theological training and pastoral
experience in Lutheran congregational development in Latin
America. Most of his theological training was conducted at
Concordia Lutheran Seminary in Buenos Aires, Argentina and at the
Latin American Biblical University in San Jose, Costa Rica. His
theological passion is Christology, especially Theology of the
Cross.

His wife, Lorraine Hill Avendaño, studied in Toronto and was
ordained in the United Church of Canada. She conducted her M.Div.
thesis research at the Latin American Biblical University in San
José, Costa Rica, studying the hermeneutical methods of Latin
American Liberation Theology.

Rich Dewein,
Director of Music
|
Rich was
raised on a farm in SE Iowa, outside of Bonaparte in historic Van
Buren County. He graduated from Harmony High School and
received his BME from Iowa Wesleyan College, Mt. Pleasant in 1972.
Retiring from public school education after 34 years of teaching,
Rich and his wife, Yvonne, moved to West Des Moines in August of
2006. . Yvonne is an 8th grade Special
Education Teacher in the Dallas Center-Grimes School District. They
have two children; Sarah, a graduate of the University of Kansas
and the University of Tulsa Law School, and Andrew, a graduate of
North Iowa Area Community College and Buena Vista University.
Rich has
been involved in many different churches as either choir director or
organist or both. He most recently was the organist on a
19-rank Dobson Pipe Organ at First United Methodist in Algona, where
he also directed the Algona Chamber Singers, a community-based
performing ensemble of local talent.
Rich and
Yvonne are avid gardeners and collectors. They have a large yard
with many varieties of hosta, daylilies and other perennials. They
also collect carnival glass vases, Depression glass, glass baskets,
and sets of carolers. Our family is pleased to be an active
part of Grace Lutheran Church.

Grace Kid's Care Director

Heather Nelson is the Daycare Director at
Grace Kids Care Center. We are very fortunate to have her
guide the daycare. She sees her work as part of the mission of
the church and she loves the children who come to be with us during
